Cultural Development
Although Religious Studies and Theology are not part of the School's curriculum in order to inculcate 'goodness' in the students, it should have an influence over the mores of the School as a community.
In an increasingly interconnected world the ability to empathise with those of different faith positions, as well as to hold an intellectual position on those different faith positions is of vital importantce.
Both Religious Studies and Theology, at BMS at least, have changed beyond recognition over the course of the last generation. Gone are the seated lines of pupils reciting scripture in turn: scoial anthropology and empathetic association are the order of the day.
Thus the standing of the Department within the school, as well as the time allocation and the profile that it is given by the senior management, will, to some extent, determine the way the students perceive the subject.
